Life at Alpha

Created by Sandra 12 years ago
While at Alpha, Victor had an opportunity to participate in a number of activities, including boy scouts, choir, cricket, and football. Among these, his favorite was perhaps choir, which gave him the opportunity to sing at funerals and various engagements outside of the school. Victor also enjoyed scouting, as he particularly looked forward to Jamboree events, where he would meet scouts from all over the world. These activities gave Victor a needed outlet, and provided him with exposure to the world outside of Alpha. As a young boy at Alpha, Victor remembered passing his time playing games like marbles and making kites. The education at Alpha, Victor recalled, was basic, yet still more advanced than many other schools at the time. Perhaps two of the greatest attributes of Alpha, were its vocational trade program and extensive co-curricular offerings, which supplemented the academic portion of the education that each of the boys received. Therefore, even if Alpha did not offer the most advanced academic preparation, each of the students left Alpha with a particular skill and with a variety of interests, which they could later pursue. For Victor, not only did Alpha provide instruction in reading, writing, and arithmetic, but he learned several trades, including bookkeeping, tailoring, and agriculture. Victor remembers tending the cows, which were owned by the school. For a short period, Victor also had an opportunity to learn music.
